October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month!
According to the National Cancer Institute they estimate that a woman in the United States has a 1 in 8 chance of developing invasive breast cancer during her lifetime.
Touched by an Angel…Some people will come into your life for a very short time and yet make an impact on you that will last lifetime. I call them "Angels..."
Her name was Jean. We met during a difficult time in my life. Over the years she became my dear friend, confidante and a mother figure to me. I can honestly say from the minute I met her, I knew she was special. She was beautiful inside and out. She was and still is the most intelligent woman I've ever met in my life. I am grateful for having spent some privileged time with her having touched my life even if it was for what feels like only a brief moment in time.
On March 23 2010, she lost her battle with breast cancer. She fought for three years; against all odds she continued to fight in true Jean form. It is devastating to see your family and friends suffer with this. It is simply not fair.
I strongly believe you can help protect yourself by knowing what to do and how to do it with regard to diet, exercise, lifestyle and environment playing a role in your health. However, I tried to understand emotional health with regard to breast cancer. I looked at her life and how she lived it and tried to make sense out of, why her?
There has to be balance in every aspect of your life and being. You can be a giver but you must allow yourself to receive as well. It’s important to nurture and nourish yourself and not always someone else. This may not be the best analogy, but, if you’re flying on an airplane and you need to put an oxygen mask on, you’re instructed to place it on yourself first before your children or anyone else. There’s a lot to be said about that. For many of us, instinctively, we will want to put that mask over on loved ones first.
Our bodies are layers of energy. You’re more than the physical body that you sense. Your mind, emotions, and soul have their own bodies.
Chakras are the energy centers in the physical body where your views, emotions and feelings are transformed into your state of health. There are many Chakras in our body. However, there are seven main Chakras in which energy flows through.
Blocked energy in these energy centers can often lead to illness so it's vital to know what each Chakra signifies and what we can do to keep this energy flowing freely. So, just like you take a shower every day to cleanse your physical body, you must also cleanse your energy centers as well because your current thoughts, feelings, and beliefs can directly affect your health; thrown out of balance will cause dis-ease.
Balance every aspect of life. Make sure you take care of your mind, body and soul. Nourish each one and give it what it needs to thrive so it stays in balance. Take time to just do YOU!
We feed our bodies (hopefully with whole foods) so feed your mind and your soul too!
I miss you and love you very much Jean. You will always be in my heart.
