I’m not sure when spider season begins and ends. However, in the last few weeks I’ve been seeing quite a few spiders dashing around inside my home. I knew it was time to start using a repellent spray; made from essential oils. I love it because it doesn't hurt the spiders and its beneficial for us. I live in a rural area so its expected to see many forms of life around the house.
I use a home-made spider repellent and it gets the job done. It’s safe for us and spiders hate the smell and taste.
Every day(usually in the evening) I spray along baseboards, in corners around the perimeter of my bed, windows and door frames; basically, any area a spider may crawl. Spiders can taste and smell. This essential oil blend is something they really don’t like. It literally starts working immediately. And, BONUS there is benefit for you, too!
It’s very easy to make; use a 16-oz. glass sprayer bottle. I refill approximately every 10 days. Plastic is not advisable for essential oils it is best to use dark colored glass.
I like to use a blend of Peppermint, Tea tree and Lavender essential oils. Spiders do not like any of these scents. I use this blend for its therapeutic properties as well. However, you can also use Peppermint essential oil alone. Spiders despise Peppermint Essential oil. Some benefits of Peppermint, Tea Tree and Lavender essential oil:
- Peppermint Essential oil has a calming effect on the body, has antimicrobial properties and clears the respiratory tract.
- Tea Tree Essential oil has powerful antiseptic properties; purifies and freshens the air in your home. It’s also great to destroy mold in the air. California, is one of the top 15 states where toxic mold is an issue. If you suspect mold in your home and constantly feeling ill or depressed, check out my blog post on toxic mold.
- Lavender- Omg. the list is endless for this very special essential oil. Combats stress and anxiety, treats insomnia, treats respiratory problems…and so much more!
